Rhapsody for Orchestra - 1995

14:30

(*3*3*3*3/4331/3Perc/Tmp/Pno/Hrp/Strings)

  • Premiere: Spring, 1995, Kilbourne Hall, Eastman School of Music, Rochester/New York/United States of America,  Student Orchestra, Christopher Chaffe - Conductor

Rhapsody is my first work for orchestra, and as such, is exuberant and loquacious, employing many of my favourite orchestral sonorities - sweeping melodies, dense harmonies, thick orchestrations, wide dynamic range, lush strings, wailing winds, and of course, blistering brass.

I was honoured to receive two awards for this piece - the Howard Hanson Award (1995), and also 1st place in the Winnipeg Symphony New Music Festival Composers' Competition (1996).
